VENGEANCE UNCHAINED: THE LEGEND OF BLACK CAESAR

ICYMI… SHAQUILLE O’NEAL AND ARCHIE COMICS GAVE NYCC A BIG SURPRISE! 

Last Thursday, superstar athlete, sports analyst, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and mega-celeb Shaquille O’Neal gave a private autographing session at the milestone 20th annual New York Comic Con—but that wasn’t all! Following the signing, Shaq surprised EVERYONE at NYCC, walking the con floor, mingling with fans, and creating some unforgettable moments that will go down in New York Comic Con history!

 

 

This is all in conjunction with his upcoming comic series VENGEANCE UNCHAINED: THE LEGEND OF BLACK CAESAR, by Eisner-nominated writer Stephanie Williams with art by Ray-Anthony Height and Studio Skye-Tiger. Colin Smeeton, Mike Parris, and Matthew Gross from O’Neal’s Jersey Legends Productions/Authentic Studios are overseeing the project for the studio.

The series follows Black Caesar, an African king of extraordinary physical presence, who must navigate the brutal transformation from royalty to slavery to piracy, searching for his kidnapped love while discovering that freedom in the Caribbean comes only to those willing to take it by force.

When asked by John Chandler of NBC’s Good Seats about the project, Shaq had this to say:

This December, Archie Comics is poised to make comic history once again with the debut issue of the 5-issue miniseries Vengeance Unchained: The Legend of Black Caesar. The brainchild of the one-and-only SHAQUILLE O'NEAL, the comic is penned by the two time Eisner-nominated comic star Stephanie Williams (Vixen, Roots of Madness), with art from the Eisner winning Ray-Anthony Height and Studio Skye-Tiger (Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Midnight Tiger), with Colin Smeeton, Mike Parris, and Matthew Gross from O’Neal’s Jersey Legends Productions/Authentic Studios overseeing the project.  

In this powerful first issue, Black Caesar (originally known as Musa) rules as king in West Africa. He is a giant of a man, nearly seven feet tall with a warrior-athlete's build. His exceptional size, charisma, and strategic brilliance have made him legendary among West African kingdoms; they’ve also made him a target for those who want to enslave him. When Captain Maynard, a slave ship captain, launches an assault during a festival and captures Musa’s betrothed, Princess Adanna, in the process, Musa must not just fight for his love, but for the freedom and safety of everyone in his kingdom.
